Did you know that dragonflies breathe through the body, not the head? Join us for an up-close look at these often overlooked insects: Dragonflies and damselflies. Experts Kathy and Dave Biggs have a slide-show presentation and fun activities. You will have an opportunity to see specimens with a powerful hand lens. This program will be complemented August 1, with a special hike to Natural Bridges for a dragonfly expedition!

Natural Bridges Trail
Join us for a special hike to Natural Bridges. Search for dragonflies and damselflies in and around Coyote Creek with experts Kathy and Dave. This hike complements the formal campground program the previous evening, July 31. Meet at the Natural Bridges Trailhead on Parrots Ferry Road. This is a moderate to strenuous downhill hike, 1.5 miles roundtrip. Participants may return uphill on their own. Bring water, sunscreen and hiking shoes. Wear clothing that can get wet! No dogs are allowed on the trail.

Join the park rangers and volunteers for an exciting program that features a special visitor from the 1800’s. Can you guess who it might be? I’ll give you a hint: He was a famous author who lived on a hill just above the place where our Visitor Center and Museum now are. Gain a better understanding of the history of the area as you listen to his fun stories about gold mining adventures—and all the trouble he seemed to find along the way! Be prepared—he just might bring a friend!

Natural Bridges Trail
Discover the wonders along the trail to Natural Bridges. Gain a better understanding of this unique geologic feature, including how and when it was formed. Ranger Devon will also tell you the story of “Old Bach” and other early inhabitants of this unique location. This rock formation could tell
some incredible stories, if only it knew how to talk!
